decoded conference
It‘s almost two days ago that we launched the decoded conference, an event which will interconnect people from the field of design and programming.
The decdoded conference is focusing at the development process of interesting projects within the limits of design and code/technology. The projects should be inspiration and build a base for further discussions. At this conference we will online show projects, that have been done or which have been prototyped already. Ideas and visions have to be brought into reality. The conference will foster the cultural interchange between the fields of design and tech. Topics and projects about generative design, gaming and human computer interaction will be presented by the speakers.
Our featured speakers are:
Mario Klingemann – Schönes aus Code
Moritz Stefaner – Ästhetik von Information
Benedikt Groß & Hartmut Bohnacker – Generative Gestaltung
Tilman Reiff & Volker Morawe – Games, Art & Testosterone
Massimo Banzi – Tinkering with Arduino
Like the decoded concept itself the the organisation team is a mixture of the fields of code and design. we as envis precisely, a design studio for interface and interaction design, are organizing and hosting this event together with our nerdy coding friends from reppa.net. We are looking forward to see you there…

Offf 2010 :: Paris :: Review ::
The OFFF 2010 review for those of you who missed out on this years events that took place at the digital creation conference at ‘La Grande Halle de la Villette’ in Paris between the 24th – 26th June. Both myself and the Envis team were in attendance and here are a selection of the key highlighted speakers from the event.

—– The Mill —–
The Mill are a large scale visual FX team coming out of London, New York and Los Angeles. They were responsible for closing the festival this year and they did so with a nice group presentation focusing primarily on their post production work they did for Nike on ‘Write the Future’. An advertisement spot that notably took the Internet by storm at the beginning of the this years World Cup.

They went on discussing the ‘making of’ and did a nice job of showing alot of the thought and design process. Storyboards, to the use of the massive tool used for realising large scale crowd environments alongside the VFX they covered throughout such an enormous project. They called it the biggest VFX advertisement ever made. Funny enough i believe them.

To end our review; above we showcase the OFFF titles designed and produced by ‘The Mill’ for this years festival.
Our last day at Campus Party
Some 800 young people from the EU united at Madrid for this special event, bein held during the Spanish Presidency of the EU. People took part in forums, workshops and presentations relating to science, digital creativity and innovation. We had a nice time there at the Campus Future presenting Earthwalk and Quasar interactive.
They received a lot of positive feedback from the participants. Today is the last day and we‘re deassambling the installations. We will publish some photo and video material the next days. Thank you and we see us again at another Campus Party, maybe.
Countdown to Madrid
On Tuesday, the 13th, we will pack our bags and fly to Campus Party, the worlds biggest lan-party and electronic entertainment event. At Campus Futuro, an area for new technology and innovation, we will present two installations.
First, this will be the world premier of a new installation of ours called Quasar Interactive. It is based upon the visual synthesizer Quasar and adds – you guessed it – interactivity! Together with Gold Productions a.k.a. Meduino we created three interactive spheres which are used as input devices for realtime sound and graphic manipulation. The picture is showing the Quasar board which is based on the Arduino platform containing an accelerometer and ports for LEDs. Further information will be published the next days…

The other installation is our well-known Earthwalk, which was realised together with Jens Franke. For this year it was little bit optimized, replacing a hacked keyboard by Pokey55T, a USB keyboard simulator board.
Talking about chemieraum at fmx/09

Yesterday my project partner Jens Franke and me held a talk at fmx/09, the 14. international conference on animation, effects, games and digital media. We presented the chemieraum project within the framework of the 10th junior showcase for »eyes and ears of europe« (EEOFE). We felt the pleasant vibes there and met some people from other universities like University of Arts Vienna, KISD Cologne, Georg Simon Ohm University Nuremberg, SAE Hamburg/Berlin, Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Filmakademie Ludwigsburg and especially many guys from FH Augsburg… ; ) Some of them calling themselves bunch of monkeys for doing some media installation stuff. While I was trying to get something for lunch I met some Interaction Design students from my old University HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd and felt like beeing a student again for one day. It´s a small world, really!

Unfortunately I just had time to visit two other talks, but these were fine. The first one was held by Zachary Lieberman about »making the invisible visible«. He talked about some of his projects like drawn, talk, the AR card magic and the Ars Electronica sound reactive installation (which I already knew form Joel Lewis talk at TOCA ME). Of course Zach (as a OF contributor) featured openframeworks as the ultimate tool… ; ) The second lecture was about »the tinkerer´s box« from the Quasimondo aka Mario Klingemann (incubator project site). He did some nice artworks with basic geometrical shapes like circles and triangles using Flash AS3.
It´s a pity that I have to work today. Maybe I´ll find some time for a short fmx visit before I head home to Bavaria again. If you are interested to be there next year just write a mail to info[at]eeofe[dot]de…
Shout out to Kristijan and the blonde girl which name I forgot (sorry) for taking these pictures…
