CODE = DESIGN workshop at FH Joanneum

The second part of our workshop CODE = DESIGN took place in Graz last weekend. This time we focused on the ways in which code could be used to generate print content. Many thanks to all the participants and congratulations for your great results! We created a Flickr set for them and you can also see them in the slideshow below.

CODE = DESIGN

We spent the better part of last weekend in Graz with the fine students of FH JOANNEUMs information design department. They were taking part in a workshop on Processing and the general idea of computed and generative design.

Our basic idea was to present the students with snippets of code that can be combined in different ways in order to foster creative use of programming languages.

The outcomes quite frankly exceeded our expectations. You can explore them in their full variety in this flickr set.

Congratulations to all participants for what you achieved:
Christoph Mauerhofer
Franz Ferdinand Kubin
Gianna Tatzel
Julian Kogler
Lisa Weishäupl
Magdalena Kahr
Moritz Rzehak
Roland Mariacher
Thomas Raggam

We hope you enjoyed the two days as much as we did!

envis is going academic! (part 2)

envis lecturing at FH Joanneum Graz

Not long ago, we announced that I will be holding two classes at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd in the coming term. Now we couldn’t be happier to confirm that Markus and I will also be lecturing at the FH Joanneum in Graz – the very university we both graduated from.

There will be one evening lecture and a two day workshop. Both are titled »Code = Design«, meaning that we will explore the variety of ways in which programmed patterns can enhance, facilitate or just speed up different kinds of design processes. We’re going to talk about generative design for screen, print and installations as well as about prototyping and hacking. For details have a look at our Flyer.

While the workshop is specifically targeted to students in their first term, the lecture will be open to anyone including non students. So if you are around Graz on October 16, make sure to drop by at Alte Poststraße 152 – it’s free! Lecture will start at 18:15, so be punctually.

envis is going academic!

hfg schwäbisch gmünd

Starting this October, I will be teaching at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd (university of design), the same fine university from which Thomas graduated. I’ll be giving lectures about programmatic design, artistic coding and programming languages in general. This not only gives us the chance to help bringing education in interaction design forward, we also hope that it will help us to stay up to date with aspiring young designers views on the field.
